As a self-regulated professional, it is your responsibility to ensure that your name, contact and employment information is up-to-date on our records. If at any time you need to change your personal information, you can make the changes online or by email request.

Updating Your Personal Information

Log into the Registrant Portal using your email address and password. Select the ‘profile update’ tab. You will be taken to the profile update form and you can select the information you wish to change. If your change requires approval, NSNMR staff will be notified to confirm and approve. Once approved, your information will become active on your profile.

How to Request a Name Change

If you have changed your legal name, there are two ways to make this change:

  1. Through the portal
  2. By mail

No documents are required if you are returning to the use of your birth name, as long as you already gave this name to NSNMR and provided ID when you first applied. Contact us at registration@nsnmr.ca if you would like to return to using your birth name.

Request a change of your legal name online:

  1. Log in to the Registrant Portal for Nurses using your email address and password. If you are having trouble logging into the portal, please follow the directions on the portal homepage by clicking ‘Forgot my password’.
  2. Upload a clear copy of the supporting documentation for the name change (e.g. marriage certificate, change of name certificate) in the portal under the ‘profile update’ tab. We can only accept documentation that is in a PDF, DOCX, DOC or JPG type files.

Requesting a change of your legal name through mail:

  1. Send a letter containing the name we currently have on file for you and your new legal name to:
Nova Scotia Nursing and Midwifery Regulator
    300-120 Western Parkway

  2. Include a clear copy of the supporting documentation for the name change in the envelope (e.g. marriage certificate, change of name certificate).
