As part of the amalgamation of the legacy nursing and midwifery regulators in Nova Scotia, we are currently working to define our combined purpose, vision and values. This important work is underway and will be shared publicly once finalized. We appreciate your patience as we take the time to thoughtfully shape our future together.

Interim Purpose

To regulate the nursing and midwifery professions to:

  • Protect the public from harm;
  • Serve and promote the public interest; 
  • Preserve the integrity of the professions, subject to the public interest;
  • Maintain public confidence in the ability of the regulatory body to regulate the professions.

Interim Mission

  • We register and license those qualified to practice nursing and midwifery. 
  • We ensure nurses and midwives meet expected standards of learning, competence, health, and conduct. 
  • We intervene to preserve safe practice.   

Interim Strategic Direction

  • Future Facing Regulation – Create a flexible, responsive and right touch multi profession regulator
  • Optimize Data Driven Insights – Create a process and culture to support evidenced informed decision-making
