Understanding NSNMR's Purpose
As a newly formed multi-profession regulator, NSNMR is still in the early stages of its development, but there is work currently underway to define our future purpose, vision and values as a regulatory body.
NSNMR’s core regulatory responsibilities and the reason we exist have not changed. Our purpose is grounded in the objects established for regulatory bodies in legislation. We regulate the nursing and midwifery professions to:
- Protect the public from harm;
- Serve and promote the public interest;
- Preserve the integrity of the professions, subject to the public interest;
- Maintain public confidence in the ability of the regulatory body to regulate the professions.

Renewal for Nurses Opening September 2nd
Renewal for nurses opens September 2nd. All nurses must renew their licence to be legally entitled to practice on November 1st, 2026. Ensure you know your NSNMR portal login and password to be able apply for renewal.
The renewal period for midwives will be in February.
