An important part of our work is accomplished through statutory committees that are established to help fulfill our mandate of public protection. Our statutory committees function at arm’s length from our day-to-day work and include volunteer nurses, midwives, and members of the public who make objective decisions related to the registration and licensing, practice and conduct of nurses and midwives in Nova Scotia.

The Registration and Licensing Committee reviews matters referred by the NSNMR CEO & Registrar relating to:

  • an applicant’s registration and licensing
  • renewal of a license; and
  • whether to impose conditions and restrictions on a license.

Upon referral from the CEO & Registrar, the Chair will appoint a panel of at least 3 Committee members to act as the Registration and Licensing Committee to consider the matter. The panel will be made up of registrants of NSNMR and at least one public representative
