As a newly created multi-profession regulator, NSNMR is seeking eligible registered midwives and registered psychiatric nurses to serve on statutory committees that play a critical role in public safety. These Committees include: 

  • Complaints Committee
  • Fitness to Practise Committee
  • Registration and Licensing Committee
  • Professional Conduct Committee
  • Reinstatement Committee
  • Registration and Licensing Review Committee

NSNMR statutory committees are made up of midwives, nurses, and members of the public, who make objective decisions related to the registration and licensing, practice and conduct of NSNMR registrants. 

Development Opportunity 

As a committee member, you will be supported with orientation, ongoing training, and legal guidance, including learning procedural fairness principles, trauma-informed practices, culturally sensitive decision-making, and regulatory best practices. You will also connect with other committee members from a wide range of experiences to further your professional development. 

Committee Member Expectations 

  • 3-year terms with potential for longer terms, based on need. 
  • On average, 2 or 3 meetings a year with 1 - 3 hours of preparation for each meeting. 
  • Review of detailed and secure electronic materials within set timelines.

Committee Member Renumeration 

Committee members may claim: 

  • an honorarium of $25/hr up to a maximum of $200/day for meeting and preparation time. 
  • reimbursement for eligible related expenses (E.g., travel, accommodation, meals, etc.) 
  • salary reimbursement for potential unpaid leave or employer replacement costs to attend Committee meetings.

Who can apply 

We encourage you to submit an expression of interest to begin a conversation about serving on a regulatory committee. Registrant applicants must:

  • hold a practising licence in Nova Scotia and be in good standing
  • not be a current or former board member of a professional association for the profession within the previous 24 months
  • not be a board member, or a family member (spouse, partner, child or parent) of a current board member, of NSNMR 

As part of our commitment to building diverse committees, we encourage applicants who identify as Indigenous, are from Black Nova Scotian communities or other racialized communities in Canada, are from 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, who have lived experience accommodating, supporting, or navigating diverse abilities, who are from underrepresented socio-economic backgrounds, or who are internationally educated.
