The NSNMR Board is our governing body. It is their role to make sure we conduct our work well. The individuals who sit on the NSNMR Board set our strategic direction, they hold our CEO and Registrar accountable and they ensure that we satisfy our duty to protect the public by overseeing nursing and midwifery practice.

What guides the Board?

As part of establishing the new multi-profession regulator, the Initial NSMR Board has approved a temporary policy governance approach and updated Board policies on an interim basis. Both will be fully reviewed for future decision-making over the next year or two.

The NSNMR Board uses policy governance approach that sets the roles and responsibilities for the Board and our staff. This approach gives the Board a framework they can use to monitor and evaluate the performance of NSNMR and identify measures of success. Policy governance allows the Board to enhance its accountabilities to our stakeholders. It also ensures that we are meeting our mandate to protect the public by overseeing the practice of nursing and midwifery in Nova Scotia.

The Board uses the policy governance framework to satisfy the following key roles:

  1. Setting strategic directions for the organization
  2. Monitoring organizational performance and providing risk oversight
  3. Outlines how the board works together and engages with the public
  4. Outlines how the board works with the CEO
